What is covalent bond Good Day... Covalent Bond - is a bond formed between nonmetal and nonmetal which shares the minimum number of its valence electron. Example: H2O (water) - example of compound which are bonded covalently H (hydrogen) = nonmetal O (oxygen) = nonmetal In chemical reaction, atoms may gain, loss, or shares its minimum number of valence electron in order to have the same electron configuration of the nearest noble gas. Hydrogen has 1 electron and wanted to have another 1 electron to have the same electron configuration of Helium (nearest noble gas). Oxygen has 8 electrons and wanted to have another 2 electrons to have the same electron configuration of Neon (nearest noble gas). Oxygen shares its 2 electrons 1 in each hydrogen and each of the two hydrogen will share one electron to oxygen. Sharing electrons will make both oxygen and hydrogen will have the same electron configuration of the nearest noble gas. Hope it helps...=)
